In video footage of the tragedy obtained by ViralPress, Praphrom could be seen inspecting a collapsed road from a trench opening below, before soil and concrete fell and struck the back of his neck, pinning him to the ground and burying him.

An excavator was used to scoop away some of the soil and concrete on top of Praphrom, and a rescue crew that was called in dug with their hands to try to get the man out of the ground.

It took 20 minutes to finally free the unconscious man. Praphrom was provided medical aid on the scene, before he was transported to the nearby Nakornping Hospital for treatment, according to ViralPress.

Prasert sustained severe injuries from the incident, including severed intestines and broken bones, and his ribs also penetrated his lungs and spleen, Matichon reported.

The man died from his injuries in the hospital at around 2 a.m. local time on Thursday, Sept. 11, per the outlet.

Prasert had worked as the head of the construction department at the Don Kaeo Municipality for over 15 years. He was described as a hard-working employee who was beloved by all of his coworkers, Matichon reported.

Plakorn Kanthawang, the mayor of Don Kaeo Municipality, told the outlet that Prasert had been part of a team that was sent to inspect the roadways in Huai Tueng Thao, which had been eroded due to recent floods caused by tropical storm Kajiki.

He was also helping to install a new pipe in the area, according to ViralPress.
