Enthusiasm, know-how and creativity – at the 2024 German final of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) in Passau, 136 teams of children and young people aged eight to 19 showed off their impressive technical talent. The winners of the four categories will take part in the international WRO final in Izmir, Turkey, in November. fischertechnik supported the young talent competition organized by the TECHNIK BEGEISTERT association as a global partner.
A total of 136 teams had qualified for the final in the Dreiländerhalle in 50 regional eliminations. 103 teams competed in the “Robo Mission” category, 16 took part in the “Future Innovators” and ten in the “Future Engineers”. There were also seven “starter teams”. In the four categories, the aim is to successfully get robots and robot vehicles through a course or to develop and present a robot project at different levels of difficulty. The current theme of the 2024 competition is “Earth Allies”. The students should deal with how robots can help people live in harmony with nature. “It was fantastic to see how the children and young people gave their best and to see how fischertechnik can be part of the individual robot success stories,” said Ann-Christin Walker, Business Development Management Education at fischertechnik, who was enthusiastic about the performances of the young inventors. 14 teams have qualified for the international final in Izmir in November.
fischertechnik had a stand at the WRO Germany finals and presented the broad and varied robotics product range that appeals to age groups from kindergarten to university. The company from the northern Black Forest has developed the STEM Coding Competition construction kit especially for the WRO category “Future Engineers”. This set has everything you need to build and program an autonomous robot car and successfully complete a course. The audience was also very interested in learning concepts that make renewable energies understandable for children in primary and secondary schools in a playful and action-oriented way.
The TECHNIK BEGEISTERT association was founded in 2011 by young adults. The aim of the more than 80 members is to pass on their enthusiasm for robot competitions to other children and young people. With the World Robot Olympiad, the association organizes one of the largest robot competitions in Germany. It also supports schools in setting up robot clubs, conducts training courses and supports other robot activities.
