Comings & Goings
Meagan Helman has been named artistic director and Lauren Hernandez CEO of Tallahassee Ballet, succeeding Tyrone Brooks and Janet Pichard, respectively. Brooks will shift into the role of artistic advisor and Pichard to CEO emeritus.
Lily Sutherland has been named festival director and co-CEO and Robert Binet artistic director and co-CEO of Fall For Dance North. They will succeed founding artistic director Ilter Ibrahimof on November 4.
Alyssa Martin has been appointed artistic producer of National Ballet of Canada’s Creative Action program, succeeding Robert Binet.
Julio Bocca has been named director of Teatro Colón, succeeding Jorge Telerman.
Dr. Mariko Silver will be the next president and CEO of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, beginning September 23.
At Milwaukee Ballet, Marie Harrison-Collins has been promoted to leading artist.
At Boston Ballet, Daniel Durrett and Lauren Herfindahl have been promoted to soloist, Kaitlyn Casey and Courtney Nitting to second soloist. Evelina Godunova has joined as a soloist.
Awards & Honors
Eric Best, MJ Edwards, Amari Frazier, Roderick George, Barkha Patel, and Leonardo Sandoval are among the recipients of 2024 Princess Grace Awards. Honraria were awarded to Miriam Gittens, Emara Vonae’ Neymour Jackson, and Jake Roxander. Tushrik Fredericks, Marcella Lewis, Andrea Miller, and Kate Weare received Special Project Grants.
Maria Bauman, Javon “Ja’Moon” Jones, and Nubian Néné are the recipients of New Dance Alliance’s 2024–25 Black Artists Space to Create residency program, which provides one week of dedicated studio and living space and a $2,000 stipend.
Recipients of New England Foundation for the Arts 2024 National Dance Project Production Grants, which includes $45,000 toward creation of new work, $10,000 unrestricted operating support, and $10,000 toward production residencies and/or community engagement, are Body Watani, The Foundry, Kimberly Bartosik/daela, KULARTS, David Roussève/REALITY, Drama Tops, Kyle Marshall Choreography, BANDALOOP, Ana Sánchez Colberg, Ogemdi Ude, dazaun.dance, Rebecca Lazier, Rashaun Mitchell + Silas Riener, Jean Appolon Expressions, Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, CONTRA-TIEMPO Activist Dance Theater, Ananya Dance Theatre, Michael Sakamoto and Paul D. Miller (aka DJ Spooky), Eiko Otake, and Heart Stück Bernie. 2024 Finalist Awards, which include $10,000 unrestricted grants, went to Degenerate Art Ensemble, Abby Z and the New Utility, Joti Singh, Takahiro Yamamoto, New York Theatre Ballet, Rennie Harris Puremovement, Artichoke Dance Company, PARA.MAR Dance Theatre, Christopher K. New Funding Opportunities
Applications for the 2024–25 Base Residency Program, which provides one- and two-week residencies as well as $1,000-per-week stipends to four Seattle-based and three out-of-town artists, are open through September 25. More information here.
Applications for the 2025 New York State Choreographers Initiative, which provides 20 hours of studio time, professional dancers, mentorship, and a $2,500 stipend to dancemakers based in the state of New York, will open October 1 and be accepted through December 7. Information sessions are slated for September 21 and 26 and October 8. More information here.
