John Mulaney accidentally overshared with Miguel, making for an epic introduction.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show on Tuesday, Dec. 10, the Big Mouth actor, 42, revealed that his first impression with the Grammy winner, 39, may not have been the best, thanks to a case of mistaken identity via text.
Talking to Jimmy Fallon about filming in New York for Poker Face, Mulaney said series lead Natasha Lyonne was at the center of a mixup involving director Miguel Arteta, the “How Many Drinks” singer and bed bugs.

After explaining they were back and forth between Staten Island and Queens, Mulaney said, “We’re at a rundown, real-life location, like a motel, for this one scene.”
“And afterwards — it was this summer — I’m standing there with Miguel and he goes, ‘Oh, no. I think I have some bug bites,’” he told Fallon, 50. “And I looked down, and he’s got three red bites. And he goes, ‘Oh, no. I might have bedbugs from the shoot.’”
Once they were done filming for the day and Mulaney went back to his room, he noticed he had bites as well.
“I go, ‘Oh my God, I got bed bugs doing a Peacock show.’ You never think that’s how you’ll get them, but it is!” the comedian joked before sharing that he reached out to Lyonne, 45, for assistance.
“I text Natasha, I go, ‘Hey, do you have Miguel’s number? I need to get in touch with him right now about something.’ She sends me Miguel’s number and I text him,” he continued.
However, Mulaney soon learned that he should have been more specific about which Miguel he was trying to reach, and double checked before hitting “send” on the text message.
Fallon, 50, conveniently provided a screenshot of Mulaney’s text.
“Miguel it’s John Mulaney,” the message began. “I have red bites on my legs too! What did you do for it? Are these really bed bugs(?)”

He concluded, “Otherwise, thanks for a great day.”
Mulaney read from the screenshot, laughing hysterically as he recalled the message.
According to the actor, he realized the text was sent late and Arteta had an early shoot the next day, so he didn’t think much of it when he didn’t get a response that night. However, after he still didn’t hear from the director the next day, Mulaney asked Lyonne about it.

“I call Natasha and I go, ‘Hey, Miguel Arteta hasn’t gotten back to me,’” he told Fallon. “And she goes, ‘Oh. Oh, yeah. I sent you the wrong Miguel.’”
After laughing about the situation a bit more, Mulaney cleared the air with the “Remind Me to Forget” singer.
“Miguel, if you’re watching, they weren’t bed bugs, an on-set medic let me know that it was fine,” Mulaney said, adding, “It’s a good lesson.”
