Is The Inventory Market Closed on MLK Day 2025?

MLK Day is a federal holiday that honors influential civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Because it falls on a weekday this year (Monday, January 20), you may have errands that you need to run and financial matters to take care of. The beginning of the year is often a busy time for the stock market, so you might want to make some trades on the holiday. Here’s what you need to know if you’re wondering, is the stock market closed on MLK Day 2025?

Is The Stock Market Closed on MLK Day 2025?

Is the stock market closed on MLK Day 2025? Because MLK Day is a federal holiday, the stock market will shut its doors on January 20 to observe it. The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market both follow the same holiday schedule, so unfortunately you won’t be able to make any trades on MLK Day.

Since the stock market is normally closed over the weekend, you’ll have to finish up your trades on Friday, January 17. Or if there’s no urgency, you can wait until the stock market reopens on Tuesday, January 21.

Although the bond market follows a slightly different holiday schedule than the stock market, it will also be closed on MLK Day, so plan accordingly!
