Google Gemini app will get the most recent 2.0 experimental fashions

Google has today announced that its Gemini app now has the latest Gemini 2.0 experimental models in it. First off, Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking is available to try for free by everyone using the app. This model is trained “to break down prompts into a series of steps to strengthen its reasoning capabilities and deliver better responses”, the company says.

Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking “shows its thought process so you can see why it responded in a certain way, what its assumptions were, and trace the model’s line of reasoning”.

Just to be clear – neither this model nor any others are actually “thinking” or “reasoning”, despite how much Google and OpenAI would like you to believe so. But this is still a neat addition. Now when Gemini makes something up or tells you something that’s completely wrong, you’re one step closer to finding out why.

Moving on, Gemini Advanced subscribers now have access to Gemini 2.0 Pro. This model is “designed to be exceptional at complex tasks, providing better factuality and stronger performance for coding and math prompts”, Google says. “Better factuality” is an interesting way to say “makes stuff up a little bit less”, isn’t it?

Anyway, both of these models are currently rolling out to the Gemini mobile app and the Gemini web interface. They will also make it to Google Workspace Business and Enterprise customers “soon”.
