During MWC 2025, Tecno announced four new smartphones from the Camon 40 series – Camon 40 Premier, 40 Pro 5G, 40 Pro and vanilla Camon 40. The Premier sits at the top-end with the most powerful chip, better display, cameras and charging.
Tecno even took something from Xiaomi’s playbook and offers its Pro model in two variants – 5G and 4G. The two devices are essentially the same, but the 4G variant is suitable for users in emerging economies where 5G still hasn’t picked up. Or you are fine with 4G network speeds and you prefer to save a few bucks.

Either way, we had some time with all four models, but let’s start with the star of the show, the Camon 40 Premier.
Tecno Camon 40 Premier
The Tecno Camon 40 Premier is a mild refresh compared to its predecessor. Which isn’t necessarily bad, given that we really liked the Camon 30 Premier.
The most notable upgrades are the design and chipset. The Dimensity 8200 has been swapped out for a more recent and powerful Dimensity 8350, while the body takes a more conventional shape. The two-tone appearance is still here, and the available colors are Emerald Lake Green and Galaxy Black.
Spec-wise, the display is roughly the same but with few notable changes. The screen is now 6.67″, down from 6.77″, but it supports a higher 144Hz refresh rate. Features like 10-bit color depth and HDR are here as well.
We are also happy to see the quad 50MP camera system on board once again. We’ve got three 50MP shooters on the back with different focal lengths and a fourth one on the front, which is PDAF-enabled too. This is a rare finding in this price bracket.
The primary, big 50MP 1/1.56″ is joined by a 50MP periscope telephoto unit with 3x optical zoom and a 50MP ultrawide shooter.
All that hardware draws power from a marginally bigger-than-before 5,100 mAh cell that supports 70W fast charging.
Tecno Camon 40 Pro 5G and 40 Pro
The Camon 40 Pro comes in two versions – one that supports 5G connectivity and one limited to LTE. This, in turn, means that the chipset is the main differentiating factor. The 5G-ready version runs on a Dimensity 7300 SoC, while the vanilla option settles for a Helio G100 chip.
Aside from the chipset difference, the two devices share identical hardware – a 6.78-inch OLED panel ticking at 144Hz, 8GB/256GB memory by default, a 50MP main camera aided by an 8MP ultrawide and a 50MP selfie unit with AF. It’s nice to see the main and selfie cameras trickle down from the higher-tier Camon 40 Premier.
We can’t help but notice some apparent downgrades coming from last year’s Camon 30 Pro, though. Fast charging has been capped to 45W from 70W, the ultrawide is now 8MP instead of 50MP and the 5G variant settles for a lower-tier Dimensity 7300 compared to the Dimensity 8200.
Another notable change is the design. It’s now quite different from the Premier and features a more orthodox vertical camera alignment on the back, which we are very fond of.
Tecno Camon 40 Pro 5G and Camon 40 Pro
The available colors are once again Emerald Lake Green and Galaxy Black, but the Pros also add a Glacier White option.
Tecno Camon 40
The vanilla Camon 40 has the same design as the Pros, but it features a simpler plastic finish. Beyond that it’s largely the same phone as the non-5G 40 Pro. We have the same display, chipset, battery and charging on board.
Even the cameras are identical, except for the selfie unit. Instead of 50MP, the standard Camon 40 uses a 32MP shooter without AF.
Interestingly, this device has the most color options from the entire series. In addition to the Emerald Lake Green, Galaxy Black, and Glacier White, the Camon 40 will also be available in Emerald Glow Green.
We still don’t have info about pricing and availability, but stay tuned.
