Mikey Madison Will Not Star in New ‘Star Wars’ Movie Alongside Ryan Gosling

Mikey Madison won’t be joining Ryan Gosling in a galaxy far, far away.

According to a report from Variety, a source has said that Madison, 26, was offered a role in the next Star Wars film, which is set to star the Barbie actor, 44, but she declined the part.

Not much information is known about the upcoming installment in the sci-fi franchise, Star Wars: Starfighter, but director Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) is set to helm the project.

Plot details for Star Wars: Starfighter have yet to be released, but viewers can expect a brand-new adventure with new characters.

“It takes place in a period after the Battle of Exegol, after episode 9,” Levy, 56, said during the movie’s announcement in April, referencing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

“(There are) so many opportunities to tell a Star Wars story that has all the heart and action and fun of Star Wars, but to do it in ways that are new and original,” he added.

Fans of the franchise will remember that the Battle of Exegol was the climactic showdown between the Resistance and the First Order, which ended with the Sith being destroyed once and for all. The battle took place on Exegol, a planet in the Unknown Regions.

Following the destruction of the Sith fleet, the people of the galaxy rose against the First Order, setting the stage for the next movie.

Levy confirmed Gosling’s role in the new Star Wars film at the Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo on Thursday, April 17.

“I had heard at one point that my movie was going to star Ryan Gosling and, believe me, that would be a dream come true for me,” Levy told the crowd from the stage. “So today, I just wanted to tell you here in this room that that rumor is 100% true.”

Star Wars: Starfighter is slated to hit theaters on May 28, 2027, according to the official teaser trailer.

Madison is fresh off of an Academy Award win for her leading role in Anora, in which she played the titular character — a sex worker experiencing a whirlwind Cinderella story.

After accepting the Best Actress statuette from last year’s winner Emma Stone, Madison described the moment as “surreal.” She added, “Hollywood always felt so far away for me. So to be here standing in this room today is really incredible.”

Prior to the awards ceremony in March, Madison spoke with PEOPLE in an exclusive interview for the 2025 Oscar Portfolio and said she’s “definitely” been getting some exciting offers since the film debuted last year to great acclaim.

“There are some things that I am really excited about and have my fingers crossed,” she shared at the time.
