Each week, ArtsATL curates a selection of the most exciting arts and culture events happening in Atlanta this weekend, highlighting nine must-see experiences. This week is a little different, though. Because July 4 falls on Friday this year, it’s all about the fireworks this weekend. The arts seem to be taking a little break, which isn’t surprising. That means there aren’t a lot of new shows opening, whether in the visual arts and design realm, in dance or on local theater stages. Music never seems to take a break, so you’ll find a few concerts here. Many of the local holiday celebrations will include a little music, too. If you’re looking for arts-related options this weekend, it’s a good time to catch up on some ongoing shows. We’re highlighting a few of the ones that we recommend in the list below.

THURSDAY
Hombres G perform at Gas South Arena on July 3.
Spanish pop-rock band Hombres G and Argentinian Enanitos Verdes have teamed up again for the Huevos Revueltos Tour, coming to Gas South Arena on July 3. The two bands first toured the U.S. together back in 2018. Both bands have been around since the 1980s, and, while Hombres G still consists of the original members, Enanitos Verdes’ frontman and bassist Marciano Cantero died following surgery in 2022.
Take an imaginative journey with Harold as he brings to life a world limited only by his imagination. The Center for Puppetry Arts presents this colorful adaptation of the books of Crockett Johnson through August 3, with sensory-friendly performances on July 6 and audio-described performances on July 20. No performances on July 4.
Milo is a curious boy with a vivid imagination and a sketch pad full of dreams. In the Alliance Theatre’s new musical, he transforms subway passengers into larger-than-life characters. With playful songs by Atlanta’s own Christian Magby and Christian Albright (The Incredible Book Eating Boy) and a book by Atlanta native Terry Guest, the show celebrates how we see ourselves and others. The show is on the Hertz Stage through July 27, though there’s no show on July 4. Check out our interview with cast member Jordan Patrick.
