AirPods Professional 2 simply acquired these highly effective new options with iOS 18.1

Apple released a ton of new software updates today, with the highlight being the launch of the first Apple Intelligence features. But AirPods Pro 2 users are also getting some powerful additions in iOS 18.1. Here’s what’s new.

Three hearing health features added to AirPods Pro 2

Just last week, Apple shipped a new firmware update for AirPods Pro 2. The update, with build number 7B19, brought support for the new features being added today as part of iOS 18.1.

AirPods Pro 2 users running firmware 7B19, and iOS 18.1 on their iPhone, will gain access to three powerful new hearing health capabilities: Hearing Test, Hearing Aid, and Hearing Protection.

Here is how Apple describes these new additions:

Hearing Test feature provides scientifically-validated hearing test results from the comfort of home (intended for users 18 years or older)

Hearing Aid feature provides personalized, clinical-grade assistance that is automatically applied to sounds in your environment as well as music, videos, and calls (intended for users 18 years or older with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss)

Hearing Protection feature helps users minimize exposure to loud environmental noise across listening modes (available in the United States and Canada)

These new features are currently exclusive to the AirPods Pro 2. They won’t work on any other AirPods model.
