Asian American Ballet Mission Receives $75K Grant

The Asian American Ballet Project (AABP), the first ballet company dedicated to exclusively showcasing Asian American dancers and narratives, is proud to announce the receipt of a $75,000 grant from the Barr Foundation as part of their Catalyzing Vitality program. This three-year, general operating support grant will empower AABP to expand its innovative programming and strengthen its organizational infrastructure. The Catalyzing Vitality program supports small grassroots organizations that expand access to arts, culture, and creativity, serving as platforms and resources within and for communities of color.

“We are excited to support the Asian American Ballet Project, as part of our Catalyzing Vitality initiative,” says Jamilah Bradshaw, Program Officer, Arts + Creativity at Barr Foundation. “We view AABP as a leader in arts. Its commitment to intentionally cultivating an All-Asian American performance space that brings together dancers, choreographers, and directors to develop artistically, tell new stories, and elevate the ballet experience for both audiences and artists is remarkable. AABP is an incredible example of what helps Massachusetts come alive through the arts.”

It enables us to enhance our productions ensuring that the art of ballet is representative of the diversity that shapes American culture today.”

Founded in 2022, AABP has gained national attention, featured on Good Morning America, NBC News, WCVB-TV, and WBUR. In addition to the support from the Barr Foundation, AABP has received backing from the Asian American and Pacific Islanders Commission, Asian Community Fund at The Boston Foundation, Boston Cultural Council, Cambridge Arts Council, Cambridge Community Foundation, Massachusetts Cultural Council, New England Foundation for the Arts, and Quincy Arts Council.

With this grant, AABP plans to introduce more groundbreaking performances and community engagement initiatives that highlight the richness of Asian American stories through ballet.
