Braxton Keith loves sharing a last name with the late, great Toby Keith.

During a recent appearance on the Whiskey Riff Raff podcastBraxton said he’s often asked if he’s related to the “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” singer, who was born Toby Keith Covel but went by his first and middle names professionally.

“A lot of people do ask if I’m related to Toby Keith,” Braxton, 25, said. “I moved into this house in San Angelo, Texas right when I started playing and my neighbor was like, ‘Are you Toby Keith’s son?’ I was like, ‘No, I wish.'”

When asked if the question bothers him at all, Braxton said he considered it an honor.

“(I don’t get asked) as much as I wish people asked,” he said. “That’s funny though. I wish I was.”

The “Red Solo Cup” singer died of stomach cancer in February 2024 at age 62.

In February, his family marked the one-year anniversary of his death on social media. At the time, a tribute was also shared to the “American Soldier” singer’s Instagram.

“We can’t believe it’s been a year since the world lost Toby. We have a hole in our heart and our lives. The love and support from the community that Toby created has left us all thankful and grateful,” the post began.

They added, “It has and continues to honor Toby. We know he would be proud of the legacy he left behind. Today we hope you will celebrate and listen to his music with us, where we know he is smiling down and raising his cup. A toast to a life well lived.”

Meanwhile, Braxton made headlines earlier this year after he abruptly ended a show due to bad behavior by fans.

“Listen, I don’t come to any of y’all’s jobs and do anything like that to y’all,” he continued, before proceeding to walk off stage. “So until y’all can learn some concert etiquette, my name is Braxton Keith. Thank y’all for coming out to Ardmore, Oklahoma, tonight.”

The show was a part of his This Ain’t My First Tourwhich ended on Dec. 5 in Las Vegas. He will embark on a second leg, dubbed This Ain’t My First Tour Tour Continued…, on Jan. 3.
