A bride-to-be accidentally offended her loved ones with her lack of interest in social media.
The 30-year-old woman sought some advice on Reddit’s “Bridezilla” forum after upsetting some family and friends. She explained that she is rarely active on social media but noticed that a few people posted on Instagram to congratulate her on her recent engagement.
She wrote that she found some of the messages “to be odd because I’m not that close with them and I hadn’t directly told them I had gotten engaged.”
Due to her reluctance towards social media, she did not “find it to be necessary” to repost the congratulatory posts to her own account. “I think it’s an attention grab and I don’t want any extra attention drawn to me,” she added.

“I like to keep my life private,” the woman explained. However, she did not leave her friends and cousins hanging. In fact, she replied to all the Instagram Stories that congratulated her and made sure to express “how grateful I am to celebrate with my friends.”
But her loved ones did not think that was enough.
She said that one of her friends “confronted me this past weekend about not reposting her Instagram story and said it was b—– of me to not repost.” Her aunt and cousin have also accused her of committing a faux pas.
“My aunt confronted my mom about it and said it was rude of me not to repost my cousin’s instagram story,” the woman wrote. “My cousin has not spoken to me since.”
“Am I nuts?” she asked, adding, “Personally, I think this Instagram ‘etiquette’ has gotten out of hand.”

Several people jumped to the bride-to-be’s defense.
“I am on Instagram a lot and so are most of my family and friends,” one person wrote. “I’ve NEVER heard of the expectation of a repost and think it’s super odd that anyone would expect that. I understand feeling offended if the post was completely ignored/not acknowledged. But I don’t get the expectation of a repost at all.”
Another said that they are not even aware of what “reposting” means. They added, “Ignore it, you don’t need that kind of drama.”
A third person called her loved ones’ reactions “bizarre,” writing, “I’m on IG a lot also and this has never been an expectation. I guess you know who not to invite now.”
A fourth commenter had an observation about the opposing party’s stance. “Anyone who bases their views of another person based on their social media behaviors is cringey to me,” they wrote. “That stuff seems important only to those who live a filtered life through socials.”
