Details On The Arrest Of A Fraternity Member In Connection To Caleb Wilson’s Death
WAFB TV reports that police arrested Caleb McCray, who is a Southern University alum and Omega Psi Phi fraternity member. The 23-year-old faces charges of criminal hazing and manslaughter for the death of Caleb Wilson. According to reports, Caleb McCray’s bond is reportedly set at $75,000 for manslaughter and $25,000 for hazing.
WAFB-TV also mentioned that two other suspects were involved, but they haven’t been released their names. However, District Attorney Hillar Moore says the two additional individuals will face misdemeanor hazing charges as well.

Earlier, WAFB TV stated that Omega Psi Phi members allegedly held a ritual where pledges stood in line, and Caleb Wilson suddenly collapsed. A group of friends reportedly rushed him to Baton Rouge General Hospital on Bluebonnet Boulevard on February 27, but he stayed unresponsive. Hospital staff later declared Wilson deceased and contacted Baton Rouge Police.
A group of males allegedly told hospital staff Wilson collapsed while playing basketball at a park, but he purportedly passed away after being punched in the chest multiple times. Chief TJ Morse also stated that no one called 911 to get an ambulance to help Wilson.
Southern University Releases Statement In Response To Wilson’s Passing
After news of Caleb Wilson’s death broke, the Southern University Division of Student Affairs addressed the situation by announcing an indefinite suspension of all campus membership activities, including fraternities, sororities, and student clubs. They also confirmed that this suspension will reportedly remain in effect until decided otherwise. Additionally, no new membership into campus Greek organizations will take place for the rest of the academic year.
“Southern University and A&M College is aware of an off-campus incident that may have resulted in the death of student Caleb Wilson, a junior from New Orleans majoring in mechanical engineering. The campus community extends condolences to his family, classmates and loved ones.”
Mayor-President Sid Edwards spoke on Wilson’s loss, urging young people to make better choices. He also offered condolences to Wilson’s family during this difficult time.
“My message to Baton Rouge is we’ve got to do better Baton Rouge. We feel like sometimes we take one step forward, two steps back,” Mayor Edwards said.
