Presented in collaboration with the Harkness Foundation for Dance and generously funded by the Foundation, the Harkness Promise Awards offer a grant and rehearsal space for innovative young choreographers. This year’s awardees are Micaela Taylor and Annie Rigney.
Micaela Taylor is a dancer, choreographer, and the founder and artistic director of The TL Collective. Trained in hip hop and ballet, she has created her own dance genre called Expand Practice, using varied physical shapes and textures as expressions of the dancer’s authentic self. A member of Dance Magazine’s 2019 “25 to Watch” class, she has made work for companies including Ballet BC, NDT 2, BODYTRAFFIC, and Gibney Company, as well as music videos and campaigns for various brands and artists.

Annie Rigney is a dancer, choreographer, and educator working at the intersection of extreme physicality and healing. Rigney danced with the Batsheva Ensemble, Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak Dance Company, and in Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More. Her work has been commissioned by institutions including the Martha Graham Dance Company and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She is an adjunct professor at the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program and an alumna of the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College, State University of New York.
