A North Carolina man allegedly kidnapped and murdered his 6-year-old daughter before attempting and failing to take his own life.
The Polkton Police Department received a call around 3 A.M. on March 24 from a concerned mother reporting a domestic incident involving her daughter, Mianna Roach, and the girl’s father, Michael Roach, according to a statement.
Officers arrived on the scene and spoke to the mother, who alleged that the father of her 6-year-old child had come into her room in the middle of the night, threatened her with a gun and then fled with the child in the mother’s vehicle, according to the PPD.
Authorities later said that they were unable to issue an Amber Alert at that time because “there was no legal documentation establishing custody.”
Attempts to locate Roach were unsuccessful, so police issued a BOLO alert for both the father and the stolen vehicle.

Five hours later, a deputy recognized the vehicle and attempted to stop Roach, according to police.
Roach allegedly attempted to flee the deputy, but eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch, according to police.
That is when the deputy discovered Roach with “a self-inflicted gunshot wound” and Mianna “deceased from a gunshot wound,” according to the PPD.
Roach survived the attempt on his own life though, and police say he is now hospitalized and in critical condition.
Mianna’s mother is seeking help to pay for her daughter’s funeral on Give A Hand.
The picture posted of Mianna on that site shows her smiling on her birthday less than a week before her death. Her father can be seen just behind her in the photo.
“I am trying to raise money to bury my beautiful 6 year old baby girl,” her mother writes. “Whom left this world to early by the hands of the father she loved her whole little life.”
