Demise, Poison, Blackmail and Each Wild Second from the Ultimate Episode

Warning: This post contains spoilers for season 3, episode 8 of The White Lotus.

After eight weeks of waiting, fans finally found out who was killed in the shootout that took place in episode 1 of The White Lotus season 3.

Unlike the past two seasons, there were multiple deaths in the intense final moments of the show. We’re unpacking who left in a bodybag and how things wrapped for the other White Lotus guests.

The Ratliffs

The episode begins with Lochlan (Sam Nivola) telling Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) that he wants to tell their parents he’s staying with her at the Buddhist community but she insists he shouldn’t stay with her.

When their mom Victoria (Parker Posey) presses for details when they return from their overnight stay, Piper confesses that she didn’t love the “bland” food and “tiny box” of a room she stayed in, which delights Victoria.

“I guess I am spoiled, because I can’t live like that,” says Piper as she sobs and grapples with her privileged life.

“The least we can do is enjoy it,” says Victoria of their wealthy lifestyle as a distraught Timothy (Jason Isaacs) looks on. “If we don’t it’s offensive. It’s an offensive to the billions of people who can only dream that one day they could live like we do.”

Meanwhile, Lochlan and Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) finally discuss what happened the night of their threesome. As Lochlan explains he just tries to please everyone in their “narcissistic” family and thought Saxon looked “a little left out,” Saxon interrupts him and insists they “drop this forever, please.”

Later, Timothy asks Lochlan if he thinks he could live without money. “Yeah, I think I could,” his son replies.

“Yeah, I think you could,” Timothy says, as he encourages him to get out of the room to enjoy their last day at the resort.

A glimpse of fruit flashes on the screen as Timothy contemplates his financial issues and legal trouble. As their concierge Pam comes to the villa to return their electronics, Timothy asks her which part of the wild fruit (which she told them about when they arrived) is poisonous. He rips the seeds out of the fruit, puts them in the blender and hides it under the bar area.

During their final dinner, he orders ingredients to the room to make piña coladas but tells Lochlan he won’t be having one since he’s not 21.

Back at their villa, Timothy makes piña coladas mixed with the poisonous seeds for everyone but Lochlan, who he tells to get a Coke. “I couldn’t ask for a more perfect family. We’ve had a perfect life, haven’t we? No privations, no suffering, no trauma. And my job is to keep all that from you, to keep you safe, cause I love you. I love you so much,” he tells his family.

“I’d like to make a toast to Thailand, I can’t wait to get back home,” says Victoria. When Saxon says the drink smells weird, Timothy insists it’s fine. They all begin consuming them it until Timothy yells the “coconut milk is off” and slaps it out of Saxon’s hand.

“Have you ever heard of wine?” asks Victoria as they open a bottle to toast with.

In the morning, Lochlan makes a protein shake without washing out the poisonous seeds in the container. He starts getting sick and having visions as he looses consciousness. Timothy sees the blender when he wakes up and rushes outside to try to revive Lochlan, who appears dead.

After the shootout, the episode returns back to the Ratliffs were Lochlan wakes up.

As the Ratliffs leave the resort via boat and get their phones back, Timothy tells them things are about to change. “Nothings more important than family, right?”

Rick and Chelsea

The episode begins with Rick (Walton Goggins) waking up after a night of partying with Frank (Sam Rockwell). He leave Bangkok and returns to Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) at the White Lotus. “Well, I didn’t kill anyone,” he tells her as they embrace on the beach. “I said what I had to say and got the monkey off my back.”

During dinner, Chelsea tells Rick he’s “free” now and explains the term “amor fati,” which she says means embracing one’s fate, good or bad. She goes on to explain that they’re linked, so whatever happens to him, happens to her. He then surprises her by saying “the plan” is to be together forever, making her happy and emotional.

Meanwhile, Jim (Scott Glenn) whom Rick assaulted in Bangkok and accused of killing his father, returns to the resort with his wife, Sritala (Lek Patravadi). Jim confronts Rick at breakfast and tells him to get out of the resort. He says he remembers Rick’s mother as a “drunk” and a “slut” and a “liar,” as he says Rick’s father “was no saint.”

“You didn’t miss out on much and that’s the f—— truth. What? You’re going to try to kill me now? I don’t think so,” Jim says as he flashes a gun inside his coat.

Despite thinking he had closure from his trip to Bangkok, Rick starts spiraling. Chelsea tries to calm him down. “Stop thinking about the love you didn’t get, focus on the love you have. I love you, I’m right here,” Chelsea pleads. “Please don’t do something stupid.”

Rick says he’s going to see his meditation specialist, Amrita (Shalini Peiris), but when he tracks her down, she insists he wait on a bench since she has another appointment and tells him he’ll “be alright.”

Rick watches Sritala and Jim take photos with Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) and notices Jim’s bodyguards leave the area. He starts walking towards Jim as Chelsea appears. He yells at her to “get out of here” as he confronts Jim.

Rick grabs his gun out of his jacket and shoots Jim. Sritala clutches Jim’s body and screams “Why?” She then reveals, “He’s your father, he told me.”

Jim’s bodyguards return and start shooting at Rick. The hotel’s security guard Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) grabs the gun in his office and races towards the shooting. Rick kills one of the security men, as Chelsea is shot in the chest, making her premonition earlier in the season that “bad things happen in threes” come true. After she experienced a robbery and a snake bite, she met her end — alongside Rick.

As Rick starts carrying Chelsea’s body away, Sritala orders Gaitok to kill Rick. He shoots and kills him from behind.

Jaclyn, Laurie and Kate

The episode begins when Jaclyn inviting Laurie (Carrie Coon) to breakfast, and apologizing for sleeping with their butler Valentine (Arnas Fedaravicius).

Laurie decides to spend the day sleeping but reunites with Jaclyn and Kate (Leslie Bibb) at dinner, where she tells them she went back to Alexi’s (Julian Kostov) apartment the night before.

Kate and Jaclyn gush about what a great time they had during the trip. Kate shares a lesson from her church and describes her flowers being “in bloom” as she reflects on her happiness in life. Jaclyn says she’s been in “the best mood” all week. “Nothing makes me feel more grounded than being with friends, real friends,” she adds, saying it can be “lonely” being judged by her looks for a living.

When it’s Laurie’s turn, she reveals a candid and tear-filled monologue and says she’s actually been so “sad” all week.

“I just feel as you get older you have to justify your life and your choices and when I’m with you guys it’s just so like, transparent what my choices were and my mistakes,” she says. “I have no belief system… work was my religion for forever and I definitely lost my belief there. And then I tried love, and that was just a painful religion, just made everything worse.”

She says being parent also didn’t “save her.” But she had an “epiphany,” she says. “I don’t need religion or God to give my life meaning because time gives it meaning. We started this life together. We’re going through it apart but we’re still together. I look at you guys and it feels meaningful.”

“I’m glad you have a beautiful face,” she says to Jaclyn. “I’m glad that you have a beautiful life,” she says to Kate. “And I’m just happy to be at the table.”

They all exchange “I love you’s” and round out their night talking and enjoying each other’s company back at their villa.

Belinda

Belinda (Natasha Rothwell)’s son Zion (Nicholas Duvernay) pushes her to see if Greg/Gary (Jon Gries) will give her more than $100,000, which he proposed in last week’s episode to keep her from revealing where he’s been hiding out since wife Tanya’s (Jennifer Coolidge) death.

Belinda and Zion visit Gary at his home, where Zion asks Gary for more money so his mom could pursue her dream of opening a spa. “Is there enough money here for everyone to get their happy ending? I think so,” Zion says, as he asks for $5 million.

He says he found Tanya’s public records and knows she was worth half-a-billion dollars. Belinda snaps and says they’re leaving. As Zion runs after her, she devises a plan to make Gary scared of what she may do if she doesn’t get the money.

Zion tells his mother that while he didn’t lock in a deal with Gary yet, he gave Gary her banking info for him to transfer the funds.

Overnight, Belinda gets the money from Gary and tells Zion she promised Gary she’d uphold her end of the bargain.

“When you work hard, good things happen to good people,” Zion tells her before he leaves for his spa treatment, which was interrupted by gunshots, shown in episode 1 of the season.

As they head back to Hawaii, Belinda says goodbye to her love interest, Pornchai (Dom Hetrakul) and backs out of starting a spa together with him. She dashes his hopes the same way hers were taken away when Tanya backed out of starting a spa together in season 1. “Circumstances have changed for me and I can’t commit to anything right now,” she tells Pornchai.

Gaitok

Gaitok confides in Mook (Lisa) that he knows who the robbers are. When he runs into Valentin, he asks about the friends he was with at the boxing match.

Later, Valentine confronts Gaitok, saying he knows the security guard knows who the robbers are and begs him to stay quiet. “If you say something, you’re killing me.”

Grappling with what’s right, Gaitok tells Mook he thinks he needs to quit, as he insists he doesn’t want to hurt anyone. She asks him to be practical and stop overthinking and brushes off plans for their next date.

Gaitok proceeds to tell his boss he wants to quit, but his boss tells him they can talk later as she pressures him to reconsider.

The episode ends with Gaitok running towards the shooting with his gun, and following through with Sritala’s orders to kill Rick. He’s then seen driving Sritala, in what looks like a new role as her security guard and Mook smiles proudly on at him in his new job.

Gary and Chloe, the robbers and Frank

The final scenes cut to Gary hosting a party at his home as Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon) talks to a guy and points to Gary, indicating she may have found someone who will to take up her threesome offer. Frank is seen meditating at a temple while Valentin and his robber friends party with a new group of ladies.
