When the Fairphone 5 launched in late August 2023, it cost €700/£650 for an 8/256GB unit – that was the only configuration available at the time. Now the company is introducing a more affordable variant and a new colorway too.
The Fairphone 5 now has a 6/128GB version, which sells for €550/£500 (note: in some regions the online store shows the price as €500 instead). The original 8/256GB version is still around and even received a price cut to €630/£570. The phone has a microSD slot, so storage expansion is easy. However, Fairphone is promising support up to 2030 and by that time 6GB of RAM will probably feel quite small.
Fairphone 5 (6/128GB) in the new Moss Green and the old Matte Black colors
The new colorway is Moss Green and you can only get it in a 6/128GB configuration. Alternatively, you can go with the Matte Black option. The Sky Blue and Transparent editions only come in 8/256GB.
You can find both variants of the Fairphone 5 at the company’s online store. The old Fairphone 4 is still available at €450/£420, but you are probably better off with the 6/128GB Fairphone 5. A while back Fairphone’s CEO mentioned that the company wants to start offering phones at an even lower price point of €400, but it seems that it has a long way to go yet.
You can follow the Source link to a blog post where Fairphone lays out why it thinks 6GB of RAM is enough. Basically, the company argues that unless you are a heavy user, the ideal RAM capacity is somewhere between 6GB and 12GB, while 16GB to 24GB of RAM “might be overkill”.
