One woman was rescued after she fell down a Kentucky cliff on Tuesday, March 18, in Pine Ridge, Ky., the Wolfe County Search & Rescue Team said in a statement.
The hiker called the Wolfe County Search & Rescue Team for help on Tuesday around 1:15 p.m. EST, after she fell down the Whistling Arch cliff, which is around 15 to 20 feet deep, in the Red River Gorge Geological Area. A tree in her path prevented her fall from becoming a much more serious incident.

The woman said she lost her footing and fell after she attempted to recover her air pods, which she had dropped further up the cliff face.
A response team arrived at her location and confirmed she was not injured. The remaining team members then prepared for a technical rope rescue operation. A team member then “rappelled to her location and placed her in a rescue harness,” per the statement.

The woman was hiking the Whistling Arch Trail’s main attraction, which “is a huge dry rock shelter with a scenic overlook and buttress-type arch formation,” according to the U.S. Forest Service. “The Red River Gorge Geological Area has more than 100 natural arches, the greatest concentration of arches east of the Rocky Mountains.”
The Red River Gorge Geological Area is around 60 miles southeast of Lexington, Ky.
