Comings & Goings
At New York City Ballet, Gilbert Bolden III has been promoted to principal.
At Houston Ballet, Harper Watters has been promoted to principal.
At Oregon Ballet, Theatre, John-Paul Simoens has been promoted to principal, Charlotte Nash and Benjamin Simoens to soloist.
At Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, Nora Straukaitė has been promoted to principal soloist.
Royal Danish Ballet principal Ryan Tomash will join New York City Ballet as a soloist at the start of the 2025–26 season.
New York City Ballet principal Megan Fairchild will retire at the end of the 2025–26 season, with her final performance scheduled for May 24, 2026.
Stephanie Lake has been named artist in residence at Dresden Semperoper Ballett, beginning with the 2025–26 season.
Vallejo Gantner has been named artistic and executive director of PS21.
Dance/NYC co-executive director Sara Roer has been appointed interim executive director. Fellow co-executive directors Vicki Capote and Candace Thompson-Zachery will step down in early April.
Claire Spencer has been named executive director of The Australian Ballet.
Ruth Nott has been appointed managing director of Alonzo King LINES Ballet, beginning April 21.
The Kennedy Center laid off much of its Social Impact team, including artistic director Marc Bamuthi Joseph.
Awards & Honors
Norton Owen will receive the 2025 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award, which includes a $25,000 prize, in June.
Lynda Davis and Clay Taliaferro will receive the 2025 Balasaraswati/Joy Anne Dewey Beinecke Endowed Chair for Distinguished Teaching from American Dance Festival this summer.
Baye & Asa, Tess Dworman, Jordan Demetrius Lloyd, Juliana F. May, evan ray suzuki, and Ogemdi Ude are among the inaugural recipients of Foundation for Contemporary Arts’ Creative Research Grants, which includes a $10,000 grant for each artist.
New Residency Opportunity
Works & Process is accepting applications from New York City–based professional dance artists for out-of-town residencies, including studio access, housing, transportation stipends, and daily rates, which will take place between October and May. Application deadline is April 22, or when 250 applications have been submitted. More information here.
