Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live on Nov. 2, three days before the presidential election.
The show kicked off with James Austin Johnson as Donald Trump, followed by Maya Rudolph as the vice president, a role she has played all season. After speaking with President Biden (played by Dana Carvey) and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff (Andy Samberg), Rudolph sat down in front of a mirror.
“I wish I could talk to someone who’s been in my shoes… a Black, south Asian woman running for president, preferably from the Bay Area,” Rudolph said.
Harris, 60, then appeared sitting opposite Rudolph (both in matching suits), sparking raucous applause from the live audience.
“You and me both, sister,” Harris said. “It is nice to see you, Kamala. I’m just here to remind you: You’ve got this. Because you can do something your opponent cannot do. You can open doors.”
The joke was a reference to Trump’s appearance on Oct. 30 in Wisconsin, where he appeared to miss a garbage truck door as he attempted to open it.
As Rudolph laughed, Harris replied, “I don’t really laugh like, that do I?”
“A little bit,” Rudolph replied, before intoning, “Kamala, take my palm-ala. The American people want to stop the chaos and end the dramala.”
Rudolph and Harris then said in unison, “Keep calmala and carry on-a-la,” before adding, “We know each other so well we even finish each other’s …belief in the promise of America.”

Rudolph concluded by saying, “I’m gonna vote for us,” to which Harris replied, “Great! Any chance you are registered in Pennsylvania?” Rudolph answered, “No, I am not.”
“Well it was worth a shot!” said Harris, before the two women wrapped the skit with SNL’s signature cold open sign-off: “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!”
