Killswitch Engage recently announced their new record This Consequence and some fans called the band out for having A.I.-generated artwork. Except the band wasn’t out here pulling a Pestilence, and the art was in fact a labor of love by Killswitch Engage bassist Mike D’Antonio. In an interview with Jaimunji, D’Antonio took issue with anyone calling the art A.I.-generated. D’Antonio also said he doesn’t want to be associated with A.I., though he doesn’t mind the platform as a means of creativity.
“The cover art was not done by A.I., no matter what people are saying on the Internet,” said D’Antonio. “I killed myself making that fricking cover art, so don’t tell me I just typed some words into a computer and it popped out, ’cause that’s — eight months later, that’s not what happened. It took ten thousand photos and a lot of time. So, I just wanted to put that out there.

“I guess I should be flattered that people think it’s so good (that it could have been generated using A.I.). But I’m not. I hate it. I don’t wanna be associated with A.I. Other people can do that. I’m fine with it. A.I. is just a whole new form of artwork. People can’t afford it or can’t be creative, they should definitely go gravitate towards that stuff. It’s not for me. I’m an artist. I should be able to do my own shit. And that’s what I do.”
Killswitch Engage will release This Consequence on February 21 and will embark on a North American tour shortly thereafter. Pre-order This Consequence here and get your tickets for the trek right here.
