A woman who trusted her gut while purchasing a lottery ticket ended up winning big.
The Hanover, Md., resident kept her identity under wraps after claiming her $100,000 prize from the Maryland Lottery.
“I’m very grateful!” she said after purchasing the winning ticket from Crofton Liquors in Crofton.
A photo shared by the Maryland Lottery shows her holding up the massive check paid to the order of “Trust the Intuition” as she covered the upper half of her body, including her face, with it.
Her $50 ticket from the $5,000,000 Fortune game helped her win a portion of the total.
The woman told lottery officials that some months ago, she and her fiancé bought a bunch of successful tickets, even winning $10,000 between the two of them. However, they decided to quit while they were ahead and pause playing for a while.
Then something, possibly her intuition, told her to try again.
“One day on a whim, on my way home from work, I just decided to pick a store,” the woman said.
Her winning game wasn’t even going to be her go-to, the woman said. Her first option just happened to be low in stock, prompting her to pick the $5,000,000 Fortune game.
Instead of playing at Crofton Liquors, she went home and saved the ticket for later.
After having dinner with her fiancé, the couple settled down to relax as she told him things were about to change for the better.
“We’re about to win $5 million!” she said, pulling out her lottery tickets to scratch them off.

She told Maryland Lottery officials that she and her fiancé have not decided how they’ll spend their earnings, but some of the funds would likely go towards their small wedding later this year. They also might splurge on a celebratory seafood dinner, but that’s about it.
The woman is the primary caregiver for her mother, so some of the money will be used for expenses related to her mom’s health. She also plans to set most of the winnings aside for her savings.
When asked if she would continue playing the Maryland Lottery, she said, “Oh, absolutely! When I feel it. I have to have a feeling.”
