Man Calls 911 After Allegedly Getting Caught Inside Constructing He Broke Into

A robbery at a car dealership didn’t go to plan after the alleged thief injured himself and called the police for help, according to reports.

Jeremiah Megallon called the police on himself after he allegedly injured himself on broken glass while breaking into the Patterson Dodge dealership in Tyler, Texas, on Wednesday, March 26, per CBS affiliate KKTV 11, KLTV and Fox News.

The Tyler Police Department was called by Megallon, 38, at around 3:35 a.m. local time. Police said the suspect “hurt himself badly after throwing a rock through a window” and made the call after he wasn’t able to make it out of the building the same way he came in, according to the outlets.

Public Information Officer Andy Erbaugh told Fox News, “He said he had broken into the Patterson Dodge dealership in an attempt to steal a car but was unable to get out of the building. He had cuts from breaking a window at the dealership and crawling through it.”

Erbaugh said there were “several unlocked doors (the suspect) could have used to get out,” per Fox News.

A member of the car dealership staff claimed that Megallon cut himself on a 1-inch double-pane window, KTLV reported.

Megallon was treated at a local hospital and then sent to Smith County Jail, where he was arrested for alleged burglary of a building, Erbaugh confirmed to the outlet.

A staff member at the car dealership claimed that Megallon only managed to steal candy from the desk of a salesperson during the alleged botched robbery.

“After 26 years here, truth is stranger than fiction,” Erbaugh said of the incident, per Fox News.

PEOPLE reached out to the Tyler Police Department for comment, but they did not immediately respond.
