Michael J. Fox is wishing his eldest child a very happy birthday.

“Happy Birthday Sam…No better friend, brother, or son on the planet. Love you so much,” the Back to the Future star, 63, wrote as the endearing caption to a Friday, May 30 Instagram post.
In it, he and Sam Michael Fox, 36, stood side by side as the actor pretended to punch his son in the face.
Sam, who was all smiles for the photo op with his famous father, is his only son.
In addition to the birthday boy, Fox shares twins Aquinnah Kathleen Fox, 30, Schuyler Frances Fox, also 30, and Esmé Annabelle Fox, 23, with his wife of over 30 years, Tracy Pollan.
Fox’s Back to the Future costar Christopher Lloyd left a single red heart emoji in the comment section of the post.
Mariska Hargitay added, “Happy birthday, Sam!!!💖.”
Fans commented on how much the father-son duo resembled one another, with someone referring to Sam as Fox’s “mini-me,” but then adding, “Well… sorta…,” likely due to the birthday boy being taller than his dad.

Earlier this year, Fox and his family were present as the Teen Wolf alum received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden.
In a 1998 cover story, Fox spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about living with Parkinson’s disease after being diagnosed in 1991.
During his time at the White House, he was recognized for raising awareness of the incurable degenerative disorder.
“On behalf of the million or so people living with Parkinson’s, and the millions more who love them, I am proud and honored to accept the Medal of Freedom from President Biden. No doubt I get the most attention in the PD community, but this is our fight and support and recognition on this level is a great boost,” he captioned a Jan. 6 post.

He concluded, “I still believe with all my heart we will eliminate Parkinson’s disease and all who have joined in the fight will have played a part in the victory. Thank you. With Hope and Gratitude, Michael J. Fox.”
His family proudly smiled as they gathered for photos in his carousel. And though they’re all supportive of each other, Fox has said in the past he doesn’t think his girls have seen one of his biggest films, Back to the Future Part II.

“I don’t know if my daughters have seen it,” Fox said during a Back to the Future panel at Los Angeles Comic Con while discussing the movie’s 1989 sequel.
The father of four is known for his quirky fun with his family.
“Our children are beautiful, sensitive, intelligent, empathetic, independent, compassionate, adventurous, lovely people. That’s your fault,” he quipped in a 2022 Mother’s Day tribute to Pollan, 64. “We all love you so much. Happy Mother’s Day.”
