As part of its 10th anniversary programming, the National Center for Choreography–Akron (NCCAkron) continues its Making Moves national tour, a series of free public events designed to spark dialogue and reimagine labor among artists and arts workers. The local and national case studies explore themes of arts ecosystem building, adaptive thinking, and applying creative practices to administrative operations. The first leg of the 2026 tour includes events in Miami, FL (March 4), Memphis, TN (April 25), Boston, MA (May 3), and Houston TX (past, Jan 14).
NCCAkron is one of only two national centers for choreography in the U.S., a research and development hub for dance. NCCAkron is currently celebrating 10 years of serving as a connector and cultural matchmaker for those looking to experiment with dance. NCCAkron has previously hosted Making Moves events in Chicago, IL; New York, NY; Akron, OH; Nashville, TN; and Seattle, WA.
“Since publishing Artists on Creative Administration, the response has been phenomenal. But perhaps most important, we’ve come to realize the book can be a conversation starter about creative labor, business models, and doing what dancers do best: adapting to the moment,” reflects Christy Bolingbroke, NCCAkron Executive/Artistic Director. “Staging these conversations in dance hubs across the U.S. allows us to highlight many more of the lived experiences and stories across our field, and to add their case studies to this collection of ongoing research.”
Speakers for individual cities/events will be announced at a later date.
Making Moves events are free to attend with RSVP. Visit https://www.nccakron.org/tenthanniversary to RSVP to a city near you.
For those unable to attend in person, All Making Moves events are recorded and published online.
