The world of robotics is in motion – and in the middle of it: Pib. The humanoid robot, which can be completely produced using the 3D printing processhas received a special award. The German Design Award 2025 offers the printable intelligent and not only appreciates its technological sophistication, but also its innovative design. But what makes PIB so special?
A robot for everyone – and from all

Imagine a robot that everyone can build and program themselves. A robot that not only exists as a technical gadget, but also inspires people, to shape themselves, research and break new ground in robotics. That is exactly PIB. His open source approach has a central goal: to simplify access to robotics and AI and to reduce technological hurdles. Whether inventors, students or technology enthusiasts – PIB invites everyone to become part of his steadily growing community.
German Design Award 2025: Recognition for visionary product design
The German Design Award is considered one of the most renowned awards for outstanding design. Every year, an international expert jury awarded innovative concepts in the areas of product design, communication and architecture. This year PIB convinced with its “Excellent Product Design” in the “AI in Product Design Processes” category – confirmation that technology and aesthetics can go hand in hand.
Technology meets creativity
PIB is more than a robot – it is a platform for innovative technologies. The project enables curious, playful and practical to experiment with 3D printing, robotics and artificial intelligence. Previous knowledge is not a prerequisite. Everyone can get involved, help shape and learn. The community plays a crucial role: the newly designed housing adapted to human forms, which has now been awarded the German Design Award, also comes from the pen of a community member.
Jürgen Baier, founder of PIB, is pleased about the recognition: “We are proud that PIB won the German Design Award! For us, this means that we are on the right track to make access to technologies such as robotics and AI easier and more tangible for everyone. It’s great to see that our vision of inspiring people to shape and research is so well received. ”
Learning with PIB: Schools and media centers rely on the humanoid robots
But PIB does not only cause enthusiasm in the maker community. It is also used as an innovative learning platform in over 35 schools and media centers. Pupils use the humanoid robot to explore future technologies in an interactive and practical way. It is not just about technical skills, but also about creative problem solving and teamwork. The practical imparting of knowledge makes robotics and AI tangible – and thus opens doors to the professions of tomorrow.
Open source and limitless possibilities
Behind PIB is Nuremberg Isento GmbH, a company that specializes in software development and AI solutions. But the robot lives not only through the work of the Isento employees, but above all through the participation of the community. 3D printing data, detailed building instructions, program code, AI skills and a knowledge database are available online-an invitation to everyone to shape the future of robotics.
With the winning of the German Design Award, PIB receives a deserved appreciation. But for the project, this award means much more: it is an incentive to further shift the limits of what is possible with open source robotics. So if you have always wondered how to create a humanoid robot yourself – PIB gives the answer.
