Dance for Paws was established in 2024 by Sarah Lane, a former Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theatre. A lifelong cat lover, Lane grew up in the countryside surrounded by both cats and dogs. Alongside her husband, Luis Ribagorda, Lane now shares her life with two beloved dogs, Cora and Maya. Their first dog, Tehya, who became a cherished part of their New York City family, inspired their deep love for dogs. After Tehya’s sudden passing at a young age, Lane felt compelled to take action and offer other animals a chance at a better life. Years later, this led to the creation of Dance for Paws. Tehya’s name, meaning “precious,” serves as a reminder of how special every animal is, and Lane hopes Tehya’s legacy will inspire others to provide loving homes to animals in need.

Dance for Paws is a charity that melds the power of dance and a deep love for animals to create a lasting, meaningful impact on the lives of homeless animals. Through fundraising efforts and proceeds from events and ticket sales, Dance for Paws will support trusted animal rescues, clinics and no-kill shelters — organizations working tirelessly to save lives, provide essential care, and give homeless animals the chance they deserve. The mission of Dance for Paws is to strengthen animal welfare and protection operations, enhance care for animals in need, and reduce the heartbreaking number of animals euthanized each year.

Dance for Paws will hold an elegant dance gala for charity on June 2, at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre at Symphony Space in NYC. The gala, Grace to the Rescue, will feature some of the top dancers in the world, who will unite for this cause. The net proceeds from Dance for Paws’ inaugural fundraising event will be donated to The Emma and Georgina Bloomberg AMC to the Rescue Fund, Best Friends Animal Society’s Campaign to Save Them All, and Muddy Paws Rescue’s foster program. Tickets are now on sale.
Lane and her organization are passionate about raising awareness of the importance of fostering, adopting and standing against breed discrimination while educating the public on responsible pet ownership.
