Shania Twain on Trend, Dropping Her Virginity and New Las Vegas Run

Shania Twain began her third Las Vegas residency on Friday, May 10, and it was a crowd-pleaser!

The first evening of the Come on Over residency show at Planet Hollywood’s Bakkt Theater was not only energetic, but it was also personal — so personal that the country superstar, 58, told the opening night crowd about losing her virginity at 15 years old to someone from Toronto.

“I’m comfortable with the environment and I feel friendly with everybody, so I feel at home,” she explained to PEOPLE of the moment during a conversation the following day.

Twain also shared her delight at how the first performance of her new residency went, saying “I’m not just relieved, I’m really happy.”

“I was really able to enjoy the adrenaline, because adrenaline can also throw you off,” she added.

In the months leading up to the new residency show, Twain, 58, spoke lovingly about showcasing fashion in Come on Over, which includes her wigs. However, as she explained to PEOPLE, the size of her collection is “not bad.”

“I probably have 10 natural wigs that are my natural hair just for bad hair days kind of thing,” she said. “Then I have 10 color wigs. I don’t have a ton. Twenty is not bad.”

Her latest favorite, she says, is her fair pink wig, which she’s been rocking for the better part of the year.

“It’s the closest to what I will look like when I’m completely gray,” she joked.

In addition her hair style, Twain also won praise from her fans with a cascading ruffled black dress she dons during her hit “From This Moment.” The dress, in fact, is so important to the show that Twain said she has named the gown and refers to it as if it is a person.

“She’s called Fiona and she probably weighs, I am guessing, around 20 pounds, maybe more, maybe even 20 to 30 pounds. She is a structure. I designed her,” Twain said of the dress, adding that took “weeks” to make.

“I already knew what it was meant to be and then it was just about adding the right amount. It was kind of like putting a puzzle together. But I already knew what puzzle was going to look like, what it wanted it to look like. It’s a production to get her in place, to get her on, to get her off,” she explained.

In August 2023, Twain told PEOPLE that Come on Over would be “reminiscent” of her highly-engaging and energetic “Let’s Go” residency show, which ran at the Bakkt Theater from 2019 to 2022. (Her “Still the One” Vegas residency ran from 2012 to 2014 at Caesars Palace.) She also promised a fashion-forward show.

And following the May 10 performance, the singer shared that she is enjoying life, and style, as well as seeing what her audiences are wearing to her show.

“I’m enjoying it. I’m enjoying fashion. I’m enjoying watching the audience wear the fashion. It was really fun,” she revealed.

“I see people wearing things, even just from recent things. They come with colored hair and it makes me smile, makes me happy because they’re in the spirit and so we’re all in one spirit, especially in a room like this. It’s very intimate. It’s informal, and I really feel comfortable.”

Come on Over runs through December 2024.
