Many stores offer a price accuracy guarantee, which may also be called a scan guarantee. The point of this type of policy is to make sure that customers always get the price advertised on the shelf. In instances where the cashier scans an incorrect price, the policy guarantees that the customer gets the better deal. For example, let’s look at the Food Lion price accuracy guarantee.

Make Sure You Note Shelf Price At Food Lion
The most important thing to understand about the Food Lion price accuracy guarantee is that you’re responsible for catching the issue. So when you’re at the supermarket, make sure to take note of the posted prices of the items in your cart.
Each product on the shelf should have a tag or signage right in front of it, so write down or remember that price. When your cashier scans your items, watch the screen at the register to ensure all of your groceries ring up correctly. If there’s an error, make sure to bring it to the cashier’s attention.
Food Lion Price Accuracy Guarantee: How It Works
What happens if you notice a pricing inconsistency at the register? If an item rings up at a higher price than the one listed on the shelf, then you’re allowed to take advantage of the Food Lion price accuracy guarantee. The scan guarantee doesn’t apply to items that ring up at a lower price than the shelf tag.
The scan guarantee doesn’t just entitle you to a price correction. If you catch a higher price, Food Lion will actually give you the item for free. However, if you purchased multiples of that product, they won’t all be complimentary. You’ll have to pay the listed shelf price for any duplicates of the item that you purchased.
For example, let’s say that you grab three jars of your favorite tomato sauce. The shelf tag says they cost $9.99 apiece, but they ring up as $12.99 each at checkout. Thanks to the Food Lion price accuracy guarantee, you’ll receive one jar of sauce for free since you noticed this error. However, the two extra jars you grabbed will cost $9.99, the price listed on the shelf.
The Food Lion price accuracy guarantee can be repeated for each unique item that displays a pricing error at checkout.
Food Lion’s Price Accuracy Guarantee Restrictions
Just like with any other grocery store policy, the Food Lion scan guarantee comes with certain rules and restrictions. Here are some of those details:
If you don’t catch the higher price until after leaving the store, that’s okay. However, you must bring your receipt to the store to get your refund. You’ll receive your refund in the same form as your original payment method. For example, if you paid with a credit card, the scan guarantee funds will be returned to that same card.
Alcohol and tobacco are excluded from the scan guarantee policy in all states. Additionally, milk is excluded in Pennsylvania and Virginia. You’ll still be able to get these products for the price listed on the shelf tag. However, Food Lion can’t give you a free item for legal reasons.

Other Noteworthy Store Policies
Another noteworthy Food Lion store policy you should be aware of is the satisfaction guarantee. If you purchase an item that doesn’t live up to your expectations, you can either exchange it or get a full refund. Plus, certain products like fresh produce and store brand products fall under the double money back guarantee. If you’re unhappy with an eligible item, you’ll receive twice the amount you paid as a refund. Food Lion’s website provides more details on this generous policy.
Policies like the Food Lion price accuracy guarantee demonstrate the grocery chain’s commitment to customer satisfaction. What has your experience as a customer been like? Let us know in the comments.
