Amazon’s receipts programme is ending – and it’s a part of a much bigger pattern

From 1 August 2025, Amazon will no longer reward receipt uploads in the UK. Here’s why so many receipt apps are shutting down and what money-saving options are left.

From 1 August 2025, Amazon Shopper Panel will no longer accept receipt uploads in the UK.

If you’ve been scanning your receipts each month for a bit of free Amazon credit, that perk is about to disappear. You’ll still be able to do surveys through the app, but the receipts side is shutting down for good.

And Amazon’s not the only one pulling the plug.

Why is Amazon Shopper Panel changing?

To be clear, the app is not closing entirely.

You can still make money from their (limited) surveys. I find I get around 5 or 6 a month, and they only take 30 seconds to do (if you want more consistent surveys for earning, try Swagbucks – plus you get a £10 sign up bonus when you join today).

They made the announcement of the change from within the app itself.

They’ve said:

The Receipts Program is Changing

Starting August 1, 2025, the receipts program in the UK is no longer available.

You can continue to participate in surveys and use other features of the app.

Any rewards for receipts submitted in July will be processed as usual.

What’s going on? Are all receipt apps disappearing?

Yep! Most receipt apps have already gone.

Here’s a quick run-through:

Storewards – shut down completely in October 2024

ZipZero – closed November 2024

HuYu – shut down in March 2023

Receipt Hog – no longer accepts new UK users, app is effectively inactive

Amazon Shopper Panel – ending receipt uploads from 1 August 2025

That leaves Shoppix as the last big UK receipt-scanning app still going. But for how long?

Why are so many of these apps shutting down?

I mean, we don’t know for sure, but we can guess at a few reasons:

1. They’ve collected enough data

These apps exist to gather data about where and how we shop. Once they’ve built a big enough picture (or the data becomes outdated) they don’t need it anymore.

2. It costs too much to run

Verifying receipts, handling fraud, paying users, and running support all adds up. If the company isn’t making enough money from the data, it’s not worth keeping the app going.

3. Digital data is easier

Retailers now collect loads of data from loyalty cards, apps, and online orders. Brands may prefer buying that clean, digital data rather than dealing with scanned paper receipts from third-party apps.

4. GDPR and legal headaches

Collecting and storing user data in the UK means strict privacy laws. One mistake, and it could cost them dearly, so some companies may be calling it quits.

Are there any alternatives left?

Not many. But a few options still exist:

Still active

Shoppix – Take photos of receipts and earn points for PayPal or gift cards. (Still working as of July 2025.)

Swagbucks – Not strictly a receipt app, but occasionally offers bonus points for uploading receipts as part of special promos.

We keep a full list of the apps here and will update it as and when any others launch.

Similar idea, but not quite the same

Shopmium – Get cashback on specific items when you upload a receipt. More of a money-off app than a passive earner.

GreenJinn – Similar to Shopmium, focused on groceries and eco brands.

InboxPounds / YouGov – Earn rewards from surveys and offers instead of receipts.

What you can do now

If you’re still sitting on unsubmitted receipts for Amazon Shopper Panel, get them in before 31 July to earn your final rewards.

After that, your best bet is to switch to Shoppix (I’m keeping my fingers crossed it stays live) and look at other ways to make a few extra quid:

Cashback shopping sites (like Quidco or TopCashback)

Survey and offer sites

Store loyalty rewards

Supermarket cashback apps

These apps were never meant to last forever. They worked while the data was useful, but now it looks like the golden age of getting paid to upload your receipts is over.
