One mom was “shocked” after getting the “wildest surprise” during her third pregnancy.
After being convinced by her husband, Trent Wheeler, to try for one more baby, Megan Wheeler, a 37-year-old mom from Washington, didn’t expect to walk out of her 10-week anatomy scan with the news that she was going to have twins. Megan tells PEOPLE she was “shocked” when the lab technician revealed the exciting news to her.
“I will say that with every pregnancy I’ve had, I experience extreme morning sickness. And before I even knew there were two, I was doubly sick!” she says. “I had an anatomy scan at 10 weeks, and the tech looked over at me and said, ‘You’re not going to believe this! There are two!’ I was shocked to say the least.”

After receiving the news, she called her husband, who was out of town on a work trip. Megan says Trent, who has a fraternal twin he shares a very close bond with, instantly “melted into tears of joy.”
“The ultrasound tech was so kind and let me FaceTime my husband, and she was able to show him the screen,” she says. “Of course, he melted into tears of joy, already knowing the awesome bond that twins have, as he is very close with his twin brother.”

The new additions to the family joined the couple’s other two children — Kate, 8, and Canyon, 11 – doubling the size of their household. At the time, Megan says that she was homeschooling Canyon and working on potty training Kate. The family’s new identical bundles of joy, Penelope and Piper, created an experience that Megan can only describe as “wild.”
“Bringing two babies home from the hospital after a high-risk pregnancy and all that entailed, from multiple doctor appointments (and more), was wild to say the least,” she explains. “My husband was able to take three months off of work to help out as we all adjusted, and that honestly saved our lives.”
Megan captured one of those “wild” moments in a now-viral TikTokwhich has reached nearly 750K views since it was posted in November 2025. In the clip, all four of her children are sitting on the bed, while one of the twins cries loudly. Her husband, Trent, then can be seen jokingly running around, pretending to search for the baby bottle before running out of the room. Despite all the chaos, the mom of four wouldn’t have it any other way.
“In your 30’s your husband will talk you into a 3rd baby,” she wrote in text over the video. “It is very important that you listen to him because you’re going to end up with twins.”
In the caption, she commented on the experience with her little ones, saying welcoming them was “the wildest surprise yet.”

Now, with the twins being 5 years old, Megan tells PEOPLE that she can definitely say it’s been “the wildest adventure of our lives,” adding that they “wouldn’t have it any other way.” The proud mom says her favorite part about being a twin mom is witnessing the “amazing bond they share.”
“It’s almost like they read each other’s minds,” she says. “They will not fall asleep at night without the other one present. If one is getting a snack, they always ask for two so they can give it to the other. They are constantly doing the same hand motions, and doing all the same things. It is wild.”
Megan adds, “That being said though, they definitely have their own personalities! One is very much the responsible firstborn (twin A) and the other is most definitely the free-spirited baby of the family. (twin B).”
