A woman has reportedly been accused of cutting off a man’s thumb and using it to access his financial apps and steal money.
Fasil Teklemariam, 53, was found dead with stab wounds on April 5 after police officers were called to his apartment for a report of an unconscious person, according to a Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police release.
The release added that 19-year-old Audrey Miller was arrested on June 17 in connection with his murder and was later charged with first-degree murder and armed felony murder.
On July 1, police said in a second statement that another suspect, 22-year-old Tiffany Taylor Gray of Bowie, Md., was also arrested and charged with the same crimes as Miller.
New charging documents obtained by SO, NBC News and the Washington Post reportedly stated that Teklemariam had been found dead inside a bedroom with “blunt force” injuries to his head and torso, several cuts on his legs and right hand and his right thumb cut off.

According to autopsy results cited by WUSA and NBC News, the coroner determined that Teklemariam’s body had been found between two to five days after he’d been killed and that his thumb had been removed while he was close to death or shortly afterward.
Investigators also noted that cleaning products had been used at his apartment, per WUSA — though police were eventually able to identify a bloody shoe print by using a forensic crime scene tool,
Miller was captured on camera in Teklemariam’s building entering his apartment with him four days before he was found dead, reported WUSA, citing the court documents. She and Gray were also captured on camera coming and going from his apartment with two other men wearing masks and hoods a few hours later, the outlet added.
“The suspects stole several items from resident,” the court documents said, per WUSA. “A search of (Teklemariam’s) residence showed that several electronic devices and household items were stolen.”

A witness told investigators, per the documents cited by WUSA, that Gray and Teklemariam had a relationship, while another witness said they saw Gray use the stolen thumb to draw money out of his account to pay for things such as an Uber ride, marijuana and alcohol.
Investigators also found that Teklemariam previously filed a complaint accusing Gray of theft last year after his phone went missing and more than $1600 was stolen from his finance app.
The Washington D.C. District Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Police said that Gray is undergoing the extradition process to return to Washington, D.C. where she will face charges. It is unclear if additional people will be charged in this case.
