Kaskade’s New Album Is His Most Susceptible Work But: Take heed to “undux”

Kaskade has released a new album, undux, a return to long-form storytelling from an artist whose catalog has shaped EDM’s emotional core for over two decades.

Out today via Monstercat and his own Arkade imprint, undux lands as the influential producer’s first traditional studio album since 2015’s Automatic. Built around a deeply reflective chapter in Kaskade’s career, it’s the most introspective project of his career.

Early recording sessions lacked direction, he says, until he stepped back this past summer and let the underlying emotion lead. After years of producing singles and EPs, he says he found solace in the meticulous rhythm of album craft.

“I have always enjoyed the process of making an album,” explained Kaskade. “Set aside some time, get together with some friends and make music. It always felt like telling a story with chapters and verse… Less emphasis on the crescendo but really trying to convey an entire mood or idea.”

He opens undux with “heart worth breaking,” a groovy house track with vulnerable lyricism from Cop Kid. “touch” appears a few tracks later and also runs on an upbeat house pulse as well as the luminous voice of MKLA, known from collaborations with Zeds Dead and John Summit, among many others.

One of the album’s standouts is “obvious,” a track that turns Kaskade’s own vocals into its anchor. It opens with a weightless arrangement before his aching lyrics form its intimate spine: “Swear you calm me in some way / Your words have never been so devious / The way you lay your hands on me / Connected to your energy.”

The album closes with “can i surrender,” a collaboration with Finnstagram that settles into an eerie calm. A mellow guitar riff runs through the entire track, holding the structure together while shadowy synths drift around the edges. It leaves the album on a final breath that feels unresolved in a deliberate way, echoing its focus on emotional reckoning.

“undux has always been about connection through subtraction,” said Kaskade. “From the string of shows I did to the full length album, I’ve tried to strip everything to it’s base layer and understand the beauty of walking through feelings and experiences without getting lost in the reverberations. undux is a starting point and like with most things in life, it’s not obvious what that start will lead to but I’m excited to share that journey with my listeners.”
