Lava announced its partnership with Flipkart earlier this month for its new Virat smartphone series, built for the youth and online-first buyers. And as promised, the Indian handset maker today launched the Virat V1 and Virat V1 5G as the first smartphones under the Virat series with sub-INR15,000 ($155/€135) price tags.

Let’s talk about the Lava Virat V1 5G first. It’s powered by the Unisoc T8200 SoC, paired with 4GB of RAM. The smartphone has 64GB of storage onboard, which is expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card. In terms of software, the Lava Virat V1 5G runs Android 16 without ads or bloatware, but it’s unclear how many years of software support it will receive.
The Virat V1 5G is built around a 6.75″ HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display also has a notch for the 5MP selfie camera. Around the back is a dual-camera setup, headlined by a 13MP camera.
Fueling the Virat V1 5G is a 6,000 mAh battery that draws power through a USB-C port at up to 10W.
The rest of the Lava Virat V1 5G’s highlights include a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a dedicated microSD card slot, Bluetooth 5.0, and an IP64 rating.
The Lava Virat V1 5G comes in Arya Blue and Sonar Gold colors, and it will go on sale in India starting July 31 through Lava’s official website and Flipkart. It’s priced at INR12,999, but it will be available for INR11,999 on the first day of the sale.

Let’s talk about the Lava Virat V1 now, which doesn’t have 5G connectivity. It also has a different chip at the helm – Unisoc SC9863A. The OS is different, too: Android 15 Go vs. Android 16. But Lava says it’s devoid of ads and bloatware.
The RAM and storage space on the V1 are the same as the V1 5G, but the storage is expandable up to 256GB only. The Virat V1 packs a 6.75″ HD+ notched display like its 5G counterpart; however, the screen refresh rate is capped at 90Hz.

The V1’s battery capacity is different, too – 5,000 vs. 6,000 mAh – even though it has the same charging speed as the V1 5G. What’s also the same are the camera resolutions: 13MP for the primary camera and 5MP for the selfie camera.
Other features of the Lava Virat V1 include a USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a dedicated microSD card slot, Bluetooth 4.2, and an IP64 rating.
The Lava Virat V1 is offered in Nilgiri Blue and Himalayan Silver colors, and it will go on sale in India starting July 31 through Lava’s official website and Flipkart.
The Virat V1 is priced at INR9,999, but it will be available for INR8,999 on the first day of the sale.
