Few venues rival Red Rocks’ natural grandeur, but Liquid Stranger’s Wakaan Rocks takes the spectacle to another level with a deeply communal energy that most other events cannot replicate.

Long before doors opened on Saturday, the parking lots surrounding the iconic venue had already taken on the atmosphere of a full-day gathering. Canopies went up, grills fired on, and popup DJ sets echoed through the rows of cars as fans settled in for the third edition of this sacred Colorado ritual.

That sense of community is not accidental. Liquid Stranger, born Martin Staaf, has spent years cultivating a following that extends beyond fandom into full-fledged belonging. Through his Wakaan label and a steady presence in the scene, he has created a space that feels both expansive and intimate, drawing in longtime bass music devotees while continuing to resonate with newer listeners discovering his work in real time.

When he took the stage for the headlining set, the tone was immediately clear. Over the course of two hours, Staaf leaned into a slow-burning approach that rewarded patience. Tracks blended seamlessly, each transition unfolding with a natural sense of progression that kept the audience locked in. His ability to weave together different corners of bass music without disrupting the flow remains one of his defining traits, and it was on full display throughout the night.

There were moments where the energy surged into what fans have come to know as “spaghetti wiggle time,” a playful descriptor for Liquid Stranger’s warped, extraterrestrial drops that ripple through the body as much as the ears.

From the crowd, the clarity was undeniable, each low-end rumble landing with precision while maintaining a clean, balanced mix.

Support throughout the evening helped set the tone without detracting from the headliner’s vision. Artists like TVBOO, AHEE, EDM.com Class of 2026 star AVELLO, Hairitage and Ozztin each brought their own flavor, warming up the crowd and contributing to the thoughtfully curated experience.

Despite this being Staaf’s first-ever two-hour set, it seemed to pass by in an instant, a testament to his pacing and ability to hold the crowd’s attention over an extended experience. There was a sense that he could have continued for two hours longer without losing the crowd, a rare feat in a genre often driven by immediate payoff and subsequent fatigue.

Wakaan Rocks III reinforced that Liquid Stranger is operating in a lane that prioritizes cohesion, patience and connection over spectacle alone. At Red Rocks, that approach somehow transformed the experience into something communal and deeply personal all at once.
