The Las Vegas Strip will become a giant dancefloor on May 14th when Insomniac stages a free parade down its most famous corridor, rolling more than 30 art-cars mounted with sound systems and DJs past some of the city’s biggest hotels.
What Mardi Gras does for Bourbon Street, Insomniac wants to do for the Strip by organizing the inaugural ‘World Party Parade,’ where art-cars replace floats and DJs replace brass bands for a crowd the company hopes will include people who have never set foot inside a music festival. Hundreds of costumed performers will accompany the caravan as it passes Fontainebleau, SAHARA, The Peppermill, Resorts World, Circus Circus Hotel & Casino and Hilton Grand Vacations Club, according to a press release.
Insomniac is behind EDC Las Vegas, one of the world’s largest EDM festivals, which returns to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway the following day. Founder Pasquale Rotella described the parade as a pipe dream the organization had been envisioning for years.
“It’s always exciting to bring something new to life, but the World Party Parade feels deeply personal,” Rotella said in a statement. “It’s unlike anything we’ve done before, and the idea of bringing people together to celebrate dance music culture right on the Las Vegas Strip through a music parade is something we’ve dreamed about for a long time. We want to share this powerful culture with everyone, especially those experiencing it for the first time. There’s something truly transformative about it, and we believe it’s therapeutic, something that can genuinely benefit people when it becomes part of their lives.”
The ‘World Party Parade’ marks a major departure from Insomniac’s model of ticketed EDM festival experiences. By removing the price barrier, the company is pitching the event as an inclusive civic gathering as much as a musical one, drawing in Vegas residents alongside the festival tourists who annually descend on the city for EDC.
“Opening this up as a free experience means more people can be a part of it and feel that connection, energy and sense of community,” Rotella added. “This is about giving back to the culture, to the community and to the city of Las Vegas, which has been such an important part of our journey.”
A lineup has not yet been announced for the inaugural ‘World Party Parade,” which is scheduled to begin at 6pm on May 14th. You can find out more on the event’s official website.
