What is Overwatch 2?
Overwatch 2, a real-time tactical shooting game ( FPS), contains 35+ playable characters. Each character has different skills, and it offers various game modes such as arcade, casual, quickplay, and ranked. The main aim of this colorful team-based fantasy action game is to create a team, travel the world, compete in 5v5 object-based combat, and complete the mission objectives successfully in every match.
The major features of Overwatch 2 that make it stand out from its competitors are the availability of forty excellent heroes, twenty-plus global maps, a free-to-play experience, cross progression, and more story-based cooperative modes.
Overwatch 2 Gameplay
In the Overwatch 2 game, kills are not the major goals, and it is not a deathmatch-style shooter. Despite killing, players in this game move opposing team players off the board and keep them away from the main objective of the game, and allow their team to move in.
Overwatch 2 contains two teams consisting of five players each. To succeed in Overwatch 2, the team must outplay their opponents by mastering map objectives, cleverly using strategic hero choices, and effectively coordinating teamplay.
The players need to select a hero that appreciates each other and is also willing to accomplish the role of Support, Damage, and Tank. To outplay the opponents, the team players need to comprehend choke points, learn the various maps’ layouts, and recognize important areas of defense and attack.

Overwatch 2 has received mixed reviews from players. The majority of players, mostly new players, find the game more enjoyable, and they can understand the gameplay easily. Overwatch 2 generated over 35 million within its initial month of launch. This achievement positioned it as one of the popular games of 2022, attributed to its high player base and additional features compared to the original version.
From the above statistics and other data resources, it can be concluded that on a yearly basis, the active count and daily player count of Overwatch 2 are fluctuating, and there is no consistent level. Last year 2024, the active player count of Overwatch 2 was more than 50 million and generated $225 million in revenue. Further, its data exceeded the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) and forecast by 130%, but at the end of the year, the situation changed, and the games encountered some falls in their active player count.
However, when analysing the statistics of 2025, the active player count is increasing, so it is still hoped that Overwatch 2 will acquire its former status and generate high sales in the current competitive market.
