Children today are growing up with digital technology. Tablets, apps and connected devices are part of everyday life. But how does this technology actually work? 🤔

With the new senseBox:basic, a kit will soon be available that starts exactly here: digital education and basic IT education starting at primary school.

Basic IT education you can touch

The senseBox:basic was specially developed for a low-threshold introduction to programming and sensor technology. Children learn in a playful and practical way how sensors work, how programs are structured and how environmental data is measured and evaluated. In this way, the pure use of digital technologies becomes a well-founded understanding of how they work.

As a simplified variant of the proven senseBox:edu, senseBox:basic focuses on simple operation, basic sensor projects and a cost-effective entry.

This makes it particularly suitable for:

Primary schools first programming projects working groups and workshops on basic computer education

Programming without prior knowledge with senseBox-Blockly

To make it easy to get started, programming is done with senseBox-Blockly. The software is available free of charge as an app. Programs are intuitively assembled from visual building blocks – without any complicated code. For example, children can:

Read sensor values, program simple processes, develop your own small experiments

Which sensors are included?

The senseBox:basic makes it possible to research environmental phenomena yourself:

BME680 Environmental Sensor – This sensor measures several things: temperature, humidity and air quality.

Light sensor – The light sensor measures the brightness of the environment. Perfect for projects such as automatic light responses, light and shadow experiments, and daytime brightness measurements

Accelerometer – The sensor detects movements and vibrations. This allows children, for example, to program movement projects, determine positions in space or build simple reaction systems.

With a Bluetooth bee and an OLED display, the measured values ​​can be easily transmitted and visualized live.

There will also be free teaching materials available for senseBox:basic as hardware.

Online meetup for senseBox:basic

Anyone who would like to find out more about the new senseBox is cordially invited to the free online meetup. There the re:edu team presents the senseBox:basic and answers questions. The senseBox meetup will take place every second Tuesday of the month from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. via Zoom until summer. The first date is April 14th.
