Robots Weblog | Sensible undertaking with fischertechnik on the Hof College in Bavaria

Students at Hof University immersed themselves in the world of modern engineering and automation. They took on the challenge of designing and building their own assembly line with fischertechnik. Between creativity, technology and teamwork, they were able to experience how theory becomes practical experience and their ideas take shape in an environment that simulates the challenges of the industry of the future.

At Hof University in Bavaria, learning became a real engineering experience. Twenty students were given a task based on real industry requirements: they were supposed to design and put an automated production system into operation. There was no predetermined path and no ready-made solutions. The students had the opportunity to analyze, decide and build themselves – with a combination of creativity, technical know-how and teamwork. During the course of the project, the students delved deeply into the mechanics of the system, programmed the processes with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and brought the entire system to life using fischertechnik models. The lecturers accompanied the process, answered questions and provided orientation, but without providing direct solutions. So every decision and every progress was the result of the group’s own effort and consideration. Regular reviews helped not to lose sight of the goal and encouraged self-criticism. The students learned to question their own ideas and examine alternatives.

The result was much more than just a functioning production system – it created a generation of budding engineers who understand the importance of responsibility, communication and adaptability. “The project showed me how complex modern assembly line production really is and how important clear agreements and clean processes are. It was particularly valuable to take responsibility myself and represent solutions. I will definitely benefit from this in my future professional life,” says student Daniel M.

The success was so great that the teaching module continues to be offered at Hof University.
