Selma Blair had the perfect reaction to her son’s recent request.
The Legally Blonde star, 53, joined the Wednesday, Sept. 24 episode of Today to chat about her new projects, including her TEDX talk, receiving the key to her hometown and being a mother to a teenager. Blair, who’s a mother to 14-year-old son Arthur, shared her reaction to the teen asking her to get a face piercing.
“He asked for a face piercing. What mother in her right mind?” she said. “I let him get an ear piercing once upon a time, and he’s taking care of it, and it’s a lovely little diamond. The face, not gonna happen.”
“That’s what I said. I put my foot down,” she added. “He said, ‘Why are you so mad?’ I said, ‘Because I never want this brought up to me again, that beautiful face.’“

Elsewhere in the conversation, the doting mom gave an update on the teen, saying he’s “really loving and good.”
“He’s wonderful. I so miss him,” she said. “He’s like really loving and good now and now I can cry in front of him and he doesn’t want to call the cops and go ‘Mama, Mama, sad.’”
The actress was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018 and has shared a candid look at what it’s like to manage MS while having a career and taking care of her son Arthur.
In February, she spoke with Today about how her diagnosis has impacted her while raising her son as a single mom. Blair spoke candidly about living with the disease and all the ways she’s working to raise awareness and destigmatize it.
“I think since I had him I’d been afflicted with MS, and I didn’t know (because) I was diagnosed later,” the Cruel Intentions star began. “My fatigue was always the main issue and as any parent knows, especially a single parent, there’s no room for extra fatigue.”

The mom said that she’s always had to find and connect with other people for tips and tricks on how to handle things, like her fatigue. Blair said that she always had to ask the question, “How do you do this?” when raising her son.
“I had to ask advice for everything,” she told Today, adding that she’s now “in a good spot.”
Arthur is open about how proud he is of Blair, and she, in turn, explained that he gives her a sense of purpose to live a full life regardless of her illness.
“This is it. The only life we get,” she said. “My disease isn’t a tragedy, but I tell myself, ‘You’re going to live in a way that would be an example for yourself and your son.'”
Aside from being proud of Blair’s bravery in light of her diagnosis, the teenager has some very specific things he loves about his famous mom.
“I love that she’s so kind and liking. Not loving, liking,” he said in a 2021 video with Blair. “And she also gives me (Call of Duty) points.”
