Skrillex has cemented his hip-hop credibility with a headline booking at the world’s largest independent hip-hop festival, Summer Smash.
Fans of the genre will head to the Chicago area for Lyrical Lemonade’s festival, which is scheduled for June 12-14 at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview. The lineup comprises predominantly rap and hip-hop acts, but its second day will conclude with a performance by Skrillex.
It would be much more surprising if the dubstep icon hadn’t released dozens of rap collaborations and nabbed high-profile production credits over the course of his prolific career, amassing tens of billions of streams. He’s joined atop the Summer Smash bill by his ‘Ceremony’ collaborators Yung Lean and Bladee, who will be performing together on the same night.
Fans of electronic music will be able to take in the sounds of one of the genre’s all-time greats, but outside Skrillex, the genre is limited to EDM.com Class of 2022 artist ISOxo and the Chicago native Whethan. The lineup features a slew of superstar hip-hop acts including Lil Uzi Vert, Chief Keef, Playboi Carti, Lil Baby, EsDeeKid, Fetty Wap, Waka Flocka and Sexyy Red, the lattermost of whom is fresh off headlining Coachella’s iconic Sahara stage.
