The Comedy Pet Pictures Awards Identify Its 2024 Finalists

The 2024 Comedy Pet Photography Awards are just around the corner — and the competition is fierce!

The annual contest — which assesses pet photos and their accompanying captions to find the funniest picture — was started a few years ago by photographers Tom Sullam and Paul Joynson-Hicks. The duo decided to add a domestic pet twist to their existing contest, the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.

“By sharing the positive, feel-good, funny pet images, we could engage and encourage people to start supporting small grassroots animal welfare charities, thus making life better for the animals we share this planet with,” says Joynson-Hicks on the awards’ website.

The co-founder added that the beloved contest is “a celebration of all those wonderful furry, feathery, scaly and hoofed pals keeping us fit, sane and in good company” — and this year is no different!

On May 10, the competition named its 30 top contendersand the pictures — from a seemingly headless horse to a gravity-defying cat — have to be seen to be believed.

Six judges will determine the winner of the Overall Best Photo award (which comes with a trophy, a £500 (or about $630) cash prize, and a crossbody bag). The judges will pick the picture that “combines the best technical excellence with the most amusing content and caption.”

The judges will also pick the winner of the following categories: “Pets who look like their owners,” “Dog: Our Best Friends,” “Cat: Our Fabulous Feline Friends,” “The Mighty Horse,” and “All Other Creatures Great and Small.”

And pet lovers everywhere can get in on the judging action — and have a hearty laugh! — by voting for the People’s Choice Award!

All winners will be announced on June 6.
