Comings & Goings

ODC/Dance staging director Mia J. Chong has been named co-artistic director, effective in December.

Dutch National Ballet associate director of talent development Ernst Meisner will succeed Ted Brandsen as artistic director in August 2026. Christopher Powney will succeed Meisner as artistic director of the Junior Company.

Craig Salstein and Andrew Veyette have been named repertory directors at New York City Ballet. Senior repertory director Rosemary Dunleavy retired at the conclusion of the 2024–25 season.

Jamie Burns has been appointed director of Baryshnikov Arts effective October 14, succeeding former president and executive director Sonja Kostich, who departed for Houston Ballet in August.

Sharon Bar-Lev will be the next chief executive officer of Batsheva Dance Company, succeeding Dina Aldor in December.

Michelle Butler has been appointed deputy executive director at The Sarasota Ballet.

Dallas Black Dance Theatre executive director Zenetta Drew has announced her retirement. Her departure date will be announced once the search for her successor begins in January.

Dr. Sarah Nguyễn has been named director of archives at Jacob’s Pillow.

Laura Fernandez Gromova, Madison Young, António Casalinho, Alessandro Frola, Kentaro Mitsumori, and Victor Caixeta have joined Vienna State Ballet as principals, Margarita Fernandes, Rosa Pierro, and Vladyslav Bosenko as soloists, and Alessandro Cavallo and Rinaldo Venuti as demi-soloists.

Pacific Northwest Ballet principal Lucien Postlewaite will retire at the end of the 2025–26 season.

Michael Keegan-Dolan and Oona Doherty have withdrawn from their positions as Sadler’s Wells associate artists in response to the organization’s financial ties to Barclays.

Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers will close following final spring performances in March.

Awards & Honors

At the MTV Video Music Awards, Robbie Blue won the award for Best Choreography for his work on Doechii’s “Anxiety.”

At the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, Robbie Blue won the award for Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming (for The Grammy Awards) and Marguerite Derricks the award for Choreography for Scripted Programming (for “Étoile”).

Patricia Delgado and Justin Peck were among the inaugural recipients of New York City’s Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment’s Made in NY Awards for Theatre and Live Performance.

Recipients of 2025 National Dance Project Production Grants, which includes $45,000 toward the creation of new dance works, $10,000 unrestricted support, and $10,000 in support of production residencies or community engagement, include Rosy Simas Danse, Sweat Variant, Jamal Jackson Dance Company, Benjamin Akio Kimitch, Vanessa Hernández Cruz, Miguel Alejandro Castillo, Joti Singh, MoBBallet, A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, Jacob Jonas The Company, Emily Johnson, Rashida Bumbray, Makisig Akin and Anya Cloud/The Love Makers Company, DANCE IQUAIL!, jaamil olawale kosoko, Courtney “Balenciaga” Washington, Tere O’Connor Dance, Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre, Chitra Subramanian, and Escuela de Bomba y Plena Tata Cepeda. In addition, finalists Merrimack Repertory Theatre, Calpulli Mexican Dance Company, Degenerate Art Ensemble, Brownbody, Limón Dance Company, Dohee Lee, Fox Whitney, The Vangeline Theater, amara tabor-smith, GALLIM, Sozo Impact, Heather Kravas, Tommie-Waheed Evans, Sekou McMiller, Marie Lloyd Paspe, Roderick George, Soles of Duende, Joanna Kotze, Robyn Mineko Williams and Artists, and Heidi Latsky Dance received $10,000 unrestricted grants.

Hannah Galway and Ben Rudisin received National Ballet of Canada’s 2025 Dancers First Award, which includes a $5,000 cash prize for each dancer.
