In the quiet halls of the Banco Central del Uruguay, President Diego Labat announced a significant economic milestone.
At an economic conference in Montevideo, he reported that June’s inflation had reached a 20-year low of 4.9%
Labat confidently stated that he expects inflation to remain within the target range of 3-6% throughout 2024.
This achievement is not just a statistic; it reflects stability and strategic foresight. Labat emphasized, “Our inflation rate is close to the perfect center at 4.5%.”
This success is part of a longer trend, with the nation maintaining this rate for 13 consecutive months. He anticipates this stability will extend over the next 24 months.

Since late 2023, the inflation rate has consistently decreased, marking the lowest rates since 2005 with an annual increase of just 4.96%.

According to the survey, economic forecasts for 2024 range widely. The most conservative estimate points to a 2.8% GDP increase.
On the flip side, the more optimistic scenario predicts a growth of up to 3.9%. These figures mirror the complex economic terrain Uruguay navigates, shaped by both domestic challenges and global economic trends.
The country’s economic pulse in the early months of 2024 showed a marginal increase of 0.6%.
This follows a 0.4% rise in 2023, affected by drought and the completion of significant construction projects.
