The organizers of Belgium’s Tomorrowland are appealing for the return of an paintings stolen during the event’s first weekend after a companion piece, taken in the same theft, was quietly brought back by festivalgoers.
Titled Love and Desire, the two artworks were part of a commissioned collection of six pieces on display in the onsite Tomorrowland Restaurant. Each canvas was meant to embody one of six universal emotions tied to the festival’s ambitious 2026 theme, ‘Consciencia.’
Tomorrowland on Tuesday made a public appeal for the missing paintings’ return, noting the heist occurred despite security measures in the surrounding area. Shortly afterward, Love turned up.

A couple returned the piece to the Lab of Tomorrow, a workshop space in Boom associated with the festival, according to a report in the Belgian newspaper Newspaper. However, Desire has not been recovered.
“It is a compliment that the artworks are appreciated, but it would be nice if the ‘Conscienca’ paintings could shine a little longer for the festival-goers during the second weekend,” Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen said in a statement translated from Dutch.
The other four works in the series, Wonder, Anger, Joy and Sadness, remain on display. Tomorrowland returns for it second and final weekend July 24-26, 2026.
