Comings & Goings

BodyVox associate artistic directors Daniel Kirk and Brent Luebbert have been named co-artistic directors alongside founding co-artistic directors Jamey Hampton and Ashley Roland.

Christopher Charles McDaniel succeeded Francis Patrelle as artistic director of Dances Patrelle on July 1.

Former Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company associate artistic director Janet Wong has been named a co-creative director, alongside Jenn Kidwell, of the Under the Radar festival, succeeding Kaneza Schaal and Meropi Peponides.

Lucy Guerin will step down from Lucy Guerin Inc at the end of 2026.

Chicago Dance History Project executive director Michael McStraw will depart the organization to join the Harris Theater as interim president and CEO.

Boston Ballet executive director Ming Min Hui will step down in November.

Martita Abril has been named artistic advisor of New York Live Arts’ Fresh Tracks program.

At Houston Ballet, Danbi Kim has been promoted to principal.

Chyrstyn Ventroy is joining Royal Swedish Ballet as a principal.

At Paris Opéra Ballet, Thomas Docquir has been promoted to étoile.

At the National Ballet of Canada, effective at the start of the new season, Isaac Wright has been promoted to first soloist, Tene Ward to second soloist.

At English National Ballet, effective with the start of the 2026–27 season, Julia Conway has been promoted to principal, Minju Kang and Noam Durand to first soloist, and Chloe Keneally, Shunhei Fuchiyama, and Jose María Lorca Mechón to soloist. Gustavo Carvalho joins as a first soloist.

At Birmingham Royal Ballet, Yasiel Hodelín Bello has been promoted to first soloist, Rosanna Ely, Ryan Felix, Haoliang Feng, and Mason King to soloist. Principal dancer Samara Downs has retired from performing and will remain at the company as a répétiteur.

At The Australian Ballet, Grace Carroll and Samara Merrick have been promoted to senior artist, Elijah Trevitt to soloist.

Awards & Honors

The Tony Award for Best Choreography went to Omari Wiles and Arturo Lyons for CATS: The Jellicle Ball.

Winners at the UK’s 2025 National Dance Awards included Russell Maliphant (De Valois Award for Outstanding Achievement), William Bracewell (Dancing Times Award for Best Male Dancer), Lauren Cuthbertson (Best Female Dancer), National Ballet of Japan (Stef Stefanou Award for Outstanding Company), Scottish Dance Theatre (Best Mid-Scale Company), London City Ballet (Best Independent Company), Sophie Laplane (Best Classical Choreography, for Mary, Queen of Scots for Scottish Ballet), Kim Brandstrup (Best Modern Choreography, for Breaking Bach), Liam Francis (Emerging Artist Award), Cordelia Braithwaite (Outstanding Female Modern Performance, for The Red Shoes), Paris Fitzpatrick (Outstanding Male Modern Performance, for Quadrophenia), Roseanna Leney (Outstanding Female Classical Performance, for Mary, Queen of Scots), and Ryoichi Hirano (Outstanding Male Classical Performance, for Onegin).

Glenna Batson, Carla Lena Maxwell, and Dan Wagoner will posthumously receive American Dance Festival’s 2026 Balasaraswati/Joy Anne Dewey Beinecke Endowed Chair for Distinguished Teaching.

Choreographers Marguerite Derricks, Farah Khan, Christopher Scottand Jamal Sims have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

Recipients of Sweat Variant’s 2026 Threading Residencies are SERAFINE1369 and Angel Shanel Edwards. Recipients of its Artists Supporting Artists Program are Souleymane “Solo” Badolo, Kayla Hamilton, and Kris Lee and Lauren Bakst.
